The basic conception of depression from 1930s
The broad view of melancholia includes major forms of quite
insanity; the term 'depression' appeared in the 19th century, in the modern
concept of affective disorder, where the major disturbance is the mood disorder.
In the 1930s doctors start the use of specific rules to
diagnose mental health conditions. Doctor Angst and Perris in 1960s divided
mood disorders into 2 major groups: unipolar and bipolar disorder
All over the world, doctors were thinking about depression in
different ways. They have talked about neurotic and psychotic depression and
made a clear idea about reactive depression. Today, people still view that idea
in terms of melancholia.
Many symptoms of depression are still in melancholia. Many people
experienced stressful events while depressed. Symptoms are overlapping in
neurotic and psychotic depression.
Depression is mainly a mood disorder known for persistent
feelings of sadness, sleep loss and loss of activities for more than two weeks,
stemming from the interaction of biological, psychological, and environmental
factors. Depression’s major symptoms involve changes in mood, sleep, and
fatigue; in chronic cases, there are thoughts of suicide attempts.
In the past, many thousands of years ago, some of them had
suffered from sadness, fatigue, and lack of interest; they struggled to
understand why we suffered from these symptoms.
Modern world recognized that depression is a complex mental
health condition that occurs because of genetics and brain chemistry,
psychological differences and the environment.
In the past, health-related experts in their society did not
recognize that depression was a mental illness, they all were agreed that
depression is spiritual illness. They were believed to be caused by
demonic possession and was treated by priests rather than physicians.
Childhood experiences can arrange ideas about depression.
Experts think that things like genes and brain chemistry, thoughts and
feelings, and social factors like relationships and environment.
In conclusion, depression is a disease of psychology and
biology .Depression is curable, and research on the treatment of depression is
in progress
